10 March 2013. Yes, this is a movie, but it was a book first. This book is from Roshni's shortlist. We met at Jim and Mari's place. Importantly, they provided delicious home made bread and dips.
Maree (postal vote) - enjoyed it and of course didnt guess that the narrator had been abused by Aunt Helen (I never do guess the surprises). 14
Tim - I enjoyed it and found it darkly funny in parts 12
Nicole - I found it incredibly easy to read but perhaps sped read too quickly at some points. It did make me sad at the end because I did worry about what he would do next year, he was probably more confident and in a better position than in previous year, but I wasn't sure how he would go. 15. Very readable but it did make me sad.
Wendy 13
Cherie 15 really liked it except for the ending because I felt it made it less beautiful. I felt he could have just been an awkward kid and he didn't need a reason for being awkward. It didn't need the explanation.
Leigha - 12. - I really enjoyed it but I was waiting for something really big to blind side him, eg, the seniors were really just making fun of him. But that didn't happen. Enjoyable and would like to see movie.
James - I liked it well enough, some beautifully observed sections, going through the tunnel and observations about the kids. Felt the seniors were way too wordly. A bit of an opportunity missed. Nice sections but didn't buy the overall package. 11
Mari - 10 was going to give 11 but didn't want to be a copycat.
