book seventeen: The Book Thief

Our next book is The Book Thief by Australian author Markus Zusak. In the US, The Book Thief is marketed as 'young adult' material, but in Australia it was published for adults. Set in 1939 Germany, it focuses on Liesel, an abandoned girl who is sent to live with foster parents.

Leigha brought the shortlist, which was the first ever "best of the rest" shortlist - made up of books that have been shortlisted previously but not selected.
